Role Overview:
We're hiring a Lead Platform Engineer: a hands-on senior engineer (roughly 80% building, 20% leading) who owns our platform and data foundations and leads our in-house engineering team. Two priorities define the next year: migrating data between our two live production systems, and building the data and analytics foundations behind our quality-risk scoring.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural decisions across backend, cloud infrastructure and data systems

  • Own the data model, semantic layer and cross-customer comparability behind our analytics and scoring

  • Lead the migration between our two live production systems, ensuring integrity and minimal disruption

  • Move analytics infrastructure onto a server-side foundation

  • Contribute hands-on to engineering delivery

  • Lead the in-house team of five and coordinate outsource delivery partners

  • Sit on the senior leadership team, representing engineering in management decisions

  • Join discovery and planning early, surfacing risks and trade-offs

  • Help scale production systems for significantly larger data volumes

  • Take a deliberate view on technical debt

  • Own infrastructure improvements: cloud architecture, reliability, CI/CD

  • Document system designs clearly for the wider team

What you will need

  • Strong Node.js experience

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, with a track record of technical leadership

  • Strong GCP experience, hands-on with Terraform or equivalent

  • Deep backend and database expertise: relational, warehouse/lake, and non-relational

  • Strong data modelling skills and experience building data pipelines

  • Proficiency with SQL and semantic layer tooling (Cube or equivalent)

  • Experience integrating and reconciling data from multiple sources

  • Solid understanding of data integrity, security and governance

  • Experience designing or operating analytics infrastructure at scale

  • Experience with microservices, including event-driven and pub/sub patterns

  • Familiarity with monolithic systems and migration strategies

  • Sound judgement on technical debt and long-term maintainability

  • Strong communication skills, able to justify architectural decisions

  • Performance optimisation experience at scale

Nice to have:

  • Ruby on Rails experience

  • Full-stack React experience (React Router or Next.js preferred over Angular/Vue)

  • Healthcare, healthtech or another regulated, data-sensitive domain

  • Startup or scale-up background, comfortable with ambiguity

Professional Qualities:

  • Clear communication across technical and non-technical teams

  • Self-driven with strong initiative

  • Excellent problem-solving abilities

  • Team-oriented, confident representing engineering at leadership level

  • Commitment to code quality and best practices

  • Adaptable learning approach to new technologies

Your benefits:

  • Competitive market salary

  • Pension contribution matched up to 7%

  • Individual personal development budget plus additional 3 development days per annum

  • Company share option scheme

  • 25 days annual leave

  • 24/7 employee assistance programme

  • Casual dress code

  • Regular team socials and activities
