Phlux is an award-winning tech start-up based in Sheffield, UK. The company has commercialised a breakthrough infrared sensor technology that will be at the heart of advanced driver safety features using LIDAR, ultra-fast low latency communication networks, and seeing the invisible with 3D imaging.

The company has raised over £5M of investment to date, is revenue generating and currently employs 15 members of staff divided between Operations, Sales & Marketing, Engineering, Semiconductor devices and Finance.

The Role:

The role of test technician is the perfect opportunity for an individual who has a passion for electronics / engineering to begin a career in the fast-paced industry of semiconductors.

The successful applicant will join our operations team as we continue to productionise our current products whilst developing future product ranges designed for LIDAR, greenhouse gas sensing, defence systems and telecomms applications.

Working at our Sheffield site, you’ll undertake a range of tasks which will include the setting-up and operating test equipment, testing of our sensors, ensuring internal processes and Health & Safety measures are followed and carrying out quality checks.

The ideal candidate will be happy working in a fast-paced production environment and have a ‘can-do’ attitude with a strong work ethic. Training will be provided as appropriate, although if you have worked in a fast-paced hi-tech industry such as electronics or semiconductors before, that would be an advantage.

You will be trained in multiple skills such as:

  • Running automated test equipment.
  • Following operating procedures to carry out a range of electrical and optical test of our sensors.
  • Safe handling and packing of sensitive electrical components.
  • Picking and packing products and prototypes.
  • Maintaining quality documentation for manufacturing and testing data.
  • Record keeping and updating electronic documentation.
  • Supporting daily operation activities.
  • Maintaining the work area ensuring it is safe, clean, and organised.
  • Working in compliance with safety and environmental standards.
  • Liaising with our internal supply chain team to ensure that orders are tested on time and with required quality.
  • Maintaining general levels of tidiness in the test laboratory
  • Building and testing test PCB’s and jigs.

Qualifications, Skills And Experience

Essential:

  • T-Level / BTEC-level 3 or equivalent qualification in a technology discipline
  • GCSE passes in English, Maths and Science
  • Good team working skills.
  • Ability to undertake delicate manual tasks.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective communication
  • Be self-motivated.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within a Hi-tech environment such as electronics or semiconductors.
  • Interest in electronics / hobbyist who enjoys building engineering projects and programming.
  • Familiarity with soldering components / building PCB’s.

Goals:

3 months

  • Familiarity with team, technology, and relevant processes / procedures.
  • Proficient in the set-up and testing of packaged current production sensors.
  • Proficient in packing sensors for shipment to customers.

6 months

  • Responsible for completing production test of our packaged sensors to schedule.
  • Proficient in Loading sensors into our Burn-in systems
  • Proficient in set-up and operation of our Wafer probe test station.
  • Supports operations with testing sensors for engineering exercises.
  • Building test PCB’s

Hours of Work:

We work 37.5 hours a week, Monday – Friday

Salary: £20,000 – £36,000 depending on experience and qualifications
