Role Overview

Are you passionate about nature, with a particular interest in bats? We’re on the lookout for someone with experience in ecology and data processing to work with us at the intersection of tech and nature.

This 3-month minimum full-time role is an exciting opportunity to gain insight into the world of nature-tech. Joining our Global Delivery and Operations Team, the focus will be processing acoustic bat data already collected in the field for analysis and reporting, (we collect multiple other data types as well).

Please note that we are a globally distributed remote company and are open to applications from diverse geographies, but candidates should ideally be located within three hours of GMT.

Start date is as soon as possible.

What you will do:

  • Organise, clean and manage datasets collected at our project sites, including bat echolation calls, video footage and photographic images;
  • Maintain files, ensuring consistent naming and managing folder structures;
  • Identify, investigate and report bugs, missing or incorrect information and correct data entry errors;
  • Assist with admin and organisational tasks needed to maintain bat data pipelines.

What you will gain:

  • Understanding how the private sector is tracking, quantifying and reporting biodiversity at real scale;
  • Exposure to a wide range of digital ecological data types;
  • Learning how to manipulate, visualise, and analyse datasets using Python and SQL;
  • Seeing how ecological data interfaces with ML models and how cloud-based data pipelines operate;
  • Firsthand insight into how project management works in a fast-paced tech startup.

What we’re looking for:

  • Someone who is passionate about nature, especially bats!
  • Somone who can script, although software development experience is not required;
  • An appetite to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup;
  • A ‘roll up your sleeves attitude’ showing willingness to dive in and get the job done;
  • Experience in biology, ecology, environmental science or a related field;
  • Data fluency with good data manipulation skills using common software (excel, google sheet etc);
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn new tools and techniques.

Great to have (but not a necessity):

  • Experience using Python, SQL and/or cloud-based systems (Azure, AWS, etc.)
  • Experience using Git/Github
  • Familiarity with R
  • Experience working with GIS and spatial data is preferred but not essential

We are a globally distributed, fully remote company, and we are committed to a market-led approach to compensation based on the location in which the employee lives and works. A guiding range for this role is £27,000 - £29,000 per annum (or equivalent in local currency) for locations such as Western Europe.
