Overture Life is looking for an entry level Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in our two year training program.

Overture Life is founded on the belief that IVF is too expensive, and results are not good enough to meet our vision of reproductive freedom meaning people should be free to choose if and when to have a family. We are fortunate to be backed by amazing investors including Khosla Ventures, Google Ventures, Overwater Ventures and more.

We are addressing this head on by automating the embryology lab - the heart of every IVF clinic to standardize and improve all processes from egg and embryo freezing and thawing to embryo making and more.

Our first product - the DaVitri automates egg freezing so it can be done outside the embryology lab. The device uses microfluidics to carefully manage the process of preparing the egg for freezing. Our other products span a range of technologies from robotics, mass spectrometry, machine vision and machine learning.

Our goal is to drive up success rates in IVF by improving every aspect of the embryology lab to allow more people to walk home with a baby after embarking on IVF.

Job Summary:

We’re looking for an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to help us design, build, and scale a benchtop fluid-handling robot for IVF applications. If you’re a recent grad or early-career engineer who loves getting hands-on, iterating quickly, and seeing your designs come to life, this role is for you.

During the course of the 2 year program, you’ll work side-by-side with experienced engineers, clinicians, and cross-functional teammates to prototype, test, and refine real medical devices that directly impact patients and families. This is a chance to grow fast, take ownership early, and help bring a novel piece of reproductive health technology into the world.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Development:
  • Working with senior engineers, design mechanical components and systems for IVF medical devices.
  • Create detailed CAD models and engineering drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct design analysis, including stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations, to validate performance and reliability.
  • Prototyping and Testing:
  • Get hands-on with fabricating prototypes and test fixtures to evaluate functionality, durability, and safety.
  • Analyze test data and refine designs based on results to improve device performance and user experience.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with electrical engineers, software developers, and clinical experts to integrate mechanical designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Communicate requirements, constraints, and tradeoffs to senior team members.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare and maintain design documentation, including design reports, test plans, and validation protocols.
  • Provide regular updates on project progress and technical challenges to project stakeholders.
  • Innovation and Improvement:
  • Stay current with advancements in mechanical engineering and medical device technology, particularly in the IVF field.
  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to enhance device functionality, reliability, and ease of use.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: Entry level, 0 to 3 years of experience in mechanical design.
  • Skills:
  • Experience in CAD software (Onshape preferred) and engineering analysis tools.
  • Understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Machine shop exposure and experience with prototyping and hands-on testing of mechanical components.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the medical device industry, specifically with IVF technologies or similar medical devices.
  • Experience with DFM/DFA principles.
  • Knowledge with additive manufacturing techniques and rapid prototyping.
  • Familiarity of human factors engineering and usability testing for medical devices.
  • Experience with machine shop equipment and history of hands-on projects.

Additional Information:

  • Work Environment: 5 days a week in office
  • Travel Requirements: Domestic and international, up to 6 weeks a year for clinical instrument testing and installation.

Benefits:

● Stock options in a fast growing, well-funded technology company

● Health insurance package options including PPO, vision, and dental

● Paid Parental Leave

● 401(k)

● Paid Time Off
