Orbex are currently seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to look after our sites in Scotland and Denmark to provide support and advice to all areas of the business.
You will identify and rectify potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, while also evaluating the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms.
By integrating your engineering and health and safety expertise, you will ensure that chemicals, machinery, software, and other products do not pose risks to people or property.
Important note:
For this role you can be based in our office in Forres in Scottish Highlands, or in Copenhagen, Denmark.
While much of the work is done in an office setting, site visits to evaluate safety hazards are also necessary, plus visits to Denmark/UK and other remote locations to support with testing and Launch campaigns.

The Position
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
You should be comfortable with working in a variety of environments from office settings, site visits at the test site in Kinloss (UK) and Faxe (Denmark). You will also join for launch campaigns which will involve periods of working away at our home spaceport on the Shetland Isle.

The Position
Your responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Support testing, production, and launch campaigns at Saxavord Spaceport, ensuring technical safety support and legal compliance with all aspects of production, testing, and launch activities.
- Assist the Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) teams by providing safety oversight during test programs, ensure safety compliance is consistently maintained across FAXE, Kinloss, and Saxavord.
- Contribute to all projects to guarantee that safety laws and regulations are adhered to in both Denmark and the UK.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for pressure and other safety-critical systems, overseeing inspections and examinations.
- Test, evaluate, exercise, record, and close all actions related to test and launch sites in accordance with safety and emergency response plans.
- Stay updated on current health and safety policies, regulations, and manufacturing processes, reviewing plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to ensure they meet safety standards.
- Collaborate with our Health and Safety Manager to ensure there is an onsite safety presence, during launch campaigns, ensuring that all operations comply with Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulations, Orbex Safety Management System (SMS).
- Ensure all equipment manufactures maintenance programme are followed and equipment meets PUWER compliance.
- Bachelor’s Degree within relevant Engineering disciplines such as aerospace, mechanical, chemical, electrical, aviation and similar.
- Professional work experience in Process Design and Development within aerospace, petrochemical, or high-risk industrial settings.
- Knowledge or experience working with propulsion systems, energetic materials, and/or hazardous processes.
- Demonstrable experience applying Process Safety Management frameworks, Functional Safety and hazard analysis techniques.
- Experience working in compliance with UK, European, and local safety regulations, including PUWER, DSEAR, and other relevant guidelines.
- Practical knowledge of safety regulations, problem-solving and decision making skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
- Experience with ATEX- or IECEx- certified products and working in explosive atmospheres.
- Occupational Health and Safety, NeBosh, and/or NCRQ certification.
- Prior experience in space system design, test rig commissioning, or defence manufacturing.
- Experience working with or leading Safe by Design or safety-critical systems initiatives.
