How you will make an impact

As a Staff DevOps Engineer at Opensignal, you will play a pivotal role in driving the company’s cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipeline initiatives, ensuring that the expanding global operations run seamlessly across AWS and Google Cloud Platform. By working closely with cross-functional product teams, you will leverage your deep expertise to champion best practices, optimize code deployment processes, and enhance infrastructure efficiency while keeping costs in check. Your ability to design and implement robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab, and Circle CI, combined with your proficiency in scripting with Python, will streamline workflows and reduce deployment friction

Additionally, your strong background in Infrastructure as Code, particularly with Kubernetes and Terraform, will be instrumental in scaling Opensignal’s infrastructure. By implementing rigorous monitoring, alerting, and security measures, you will increase the observability, safety, and frequency of deployments, ensuring platform security aligns with industry standards and compliance requirements. Your proactive approach to problem-solving, combined with your leadership and mentoring capabilities, will elevate the technical standards and efficiency across the organization, making a lasting impact on Opensignal’s growth and success.

What will you be doing?

Opensignal is expanding at an ever-increasing rate across international markets. We have significant infrastructure in AWS as well as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and we’re in a strong position to embrace native Cloud capabilities across our Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and DevOps workflows.

  • You will work with our cross-functional product delivery teams - bringing your knowledge and expertise, championing development best practices and helping to build and configure environments to deploy code cleanly and efficiently across all environments.
  • You will play a key role with continuous improvement to increase the efficiency of our CI/CD processes and the running of the infrastructure while also understanding and tracking the associated costs.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring sufficient monitoring and alerting mechanisms that allow us to increase the observability of our systems and the safety and frequency of our deployments.
  • You will build processes using CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab or Circle CI and design and implement CI/CD pipelines
  • You will create Python scripts and small apps to streamline the workflow of code to deploy - with the least friction from our infrastructure.
  • You will be responsible for ensuring our platform security is in line with industry standards and best practices and meets compliance guidelines, including GDPR

We are looking for candidates with these experiences, skills and traits.

  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (we’re using Kubernetes and Terraform) and understand how it works at scale. The ideal candidate shares our passion as a deeply data-focused team who prides itself on process improvement, understanding the problem and implementing the best solution.
  • This is a role focused on automation. Extensive experience scripting with Python or similar to automate complicated processes that integrate different systems and simplify workflows for the end user.Solid experience with automated Cloud deployment with multiple Cloud providers, as well as proven experience leading the design, development and evolution of large complex cloud deployments.
  • Excellent understanding of Linux with a strong commercial background in its use in production environments.
  • Experience working with network diagnosis tools to monitor and debug from within the terminal, and have the breadth of experience to troubleshoot most issues.
  • Strong experience with configuration management tools such as Terraform, and be up to date with its best practises.
  • A proactive problem solver, you calmly and efficiently debug, manage your own workload, support and mentor team members, and accurately prioritize requests from a wide range of users across different teams or parts of the business.
  • Highly motivated to tackle complex organizational and technical problems and have the influencing skills to propose and champion bold solutions that span multiple teams and time-zones.
  • Success as bar raiser for technical best practices and standards
