The opportunity: Senior Legal Counsel, Product, AI & US

This role is focused on enabling scalable platform development, AI governance, and healthcare compliance integration. You will provide the strategic product legal input to ensure our market (US and ex-US) expansion and product offerings are built on a sound regulatory foundation.

What you'll do in this role:

  • Product & Platform development

    • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to design compliant SaaS, subscription, and platform models.

    • Define allocation of regulatory and compliance risks across product tiers (free, subscription, enterprise).

    • Anticipate legal and regulatory challenges in product development and build preventive frameworks.

  • US Healthcare Regulatory expertise

    • Lead on US healthcare regulatory matters (HIPAA, telehealth, state-specific rules).

    • Provide strategic guidance on US-specific risks and requirements to enable product and business growth.

  • AI Governance & enablement

    • Own company-wide AI governance framework, including policies, risk assessments, and regulatory monitoring.

    • Partner with product, data, and compliance teams to ensure AI systems comply with ethical, legal, and healthcare regulatory standards.

    • Promote safe, transparent, and compliant AI adoption across business functions, enabling innovation while managing risk.

  • Contracting (strategic input)

    • Define contractual frameworks that support platform scalability.

    • Partner with Privacy & Contracting Counsel (execution owner) to ensure US-specific requirements are embedded into templates and playbooks.

    • Provide oversight for high-value or high-risk strategic partnerships.

  • Knowledge contribution

    • Bring working knowledge of (observational) study designs, clinical trial frameworks, and healthcare research regulations to strengthen team capabilities.

    • Support Compliance & Risk Counsel in spotting potential overlaps between healthcare compliance, product use cases, and study design considerations.

  • Cross-functional collaboration

    • Act as the bridge between product, compliance, and commercial functions for regulatory integration.

    • Ensure global alignment between US and EMEA legal approaches.

What you bring to the table:

  • Qualified lawyer in the EU with demonstrable US healthcare law expertise and/or JD from an accredited law school; admitted to practice in at least one US state.

  • 8+ years’ legal experience, ideally in healthtech/medtech/SaaS, with strong in-house exposure.

  • Demonstrated success in supporting product development.

  • Expertise in US healthcare laws and risk allocation in regulated industries.

  • Ability to work autonomously and cross-functionally in a fast-paced, global environment.

  • Familiarity experience balancing healthcare regulations with SaaS or platform risk allocation.

  • Strong ability to translate complex regulations into actionable product requirements.

  • Familiarity with clinical trial regulations.

What success in the first 12 months looks like:

  • Platform clarity: Deliver a product-focused platform legal framework based on upcoming and expected legal and regulatory trends for a global platform

  • AI Governance & adoption: Deliver a practical AI governance framework and drive its adoption across product and business teams, ensuring AI use is transparent, compliant, and supports innovation safely.

  • Regulatory readiness: Build a regulatory playbook for US healthcare compliance linked to product development.

  • Contracting at scale: Partner with Privacy Counsel to ensure US requirements are integrated into contracting tools and templates.

What we offer:

  • Impactful work that helps patients gain access to potentially lifesaving treatments.

  • International work environment, scale-up energy, and a flat organizational structure encouraging creativity and accountability.

  • Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and an Employee Stock Option Plan.

  • Great career development opportunities in a fast-growing company.

  • Learning and development budget alongside internal knowledge sharing sessions.

  • Attractive pension plan, full premium covered by myTomorrows.

  • Hybrid working model.

  • Policies to support working parents.

  • Healthy lunch at the thriving Amsterdam office.
