The Role - Technician/ Graduate technician

Living Optics is looking for a graduate engineer to support our product development and production operations. As a member of the production team, you will be hands-on work building our innovative hyperspectral cameras here in the UK, and working to address some of the thorniest problems we have in our new product pipeline. This means that you'll be working with our R&D team to design and build prototype systems and try out new experimental ideas.

This role is a full-time, hands-on, in-person role, using our equipment and tooling at our UK HQ at Milton Park, Abingdon. You will need to be within commuting distance.

This technician role is ideally suited to someone who is near to the start of their career. We will provide training, support and mentoring to help you develop, and as an exciting, growing company, there are opportunities to develop your career in many ways.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assemble, calibrate, and validate our hyperspectral cameras
  • Build prototype optical and mechanical set-ups in our labs, and perform experiments using them, with the assistance of the R&D team.
  • Take a lead in product and process validation and testing.
  • Assist in the product fulfilment lifecycle.
  • Work closely with colleagues to contribute ideas as part of the wider multi-disciplinary team in optics, electronics, and materials for the product.
  • Proactively ensure that our products and work are of the highest quality.
  • Present your findings back to the wider Engineering and Scientific teams.


Requirements

Essential

  • An engineering/production background.
  • Able to work with complicated systems with minimal documentation.
  • Proactive problem solver.
  • Takes a hands-on approach.
  • Awareness of 2D/3D CAD, able to read mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis and working with complicated data to extract meaning.
  • Must be within commuting distance of the office
  • Exposure to programming and scripting in Python

Desirable

  • Experience working with opto-mechanics and electronics.
  • Experience in establishing and validating pilot production lines.
  • Experience in New Production Introduction (NPI), with preference towards the introduction of new technologies.
  • Exposure to the integration of electronics into systems.
  • Experience with lean methodologies or continuous improvement.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with written/technical documentation.
