About Us

At Living Optics, we build hyperspectral cameras. Our devices access information invisible to human eyes and conventional cameras and allow our customers to do a whole range of things more efficiently from sorting plastics to detecting greenhouse gases and tumours.

We’re at the stage where our hard work developing our camera is shifting to supporting our customers using our camera so you will be joining a dedicated team with a broad range of experiences and backgrounds who love a technical challenge. You will have an impact on our product, our team and our customers. As our number of customers grow, so do we, and we are currently looking for a Software QA/Test Engineer to join our team.

About The Role

You will play a crucial role in maintaining the quality of our products through hands-on testing of software whilst channelling a customer mindset.

As a member of the Product Engineering team you will be exposed to all aspects of the product across both internal and external customers. We do monthly releases of software which will require meticulous attention to detail when testing, excellent understanding of the product and clear communication of bugs and issues.

To make sure our customers have the best user experience, we check to make sure they can perform everything they need to according to our tutorials. This is done across multiple hardware platforms including: Nvidia Jetsons, desktops, tablets and mobiles across Linux, OSX, Windows, iOS and Android.

This role is ideally suited to someone with a keen interest in developing their career in software engineering. We will provide support and mentoring to help you.

Responsibilities

  • Be a core member of the testing phase of the software development cycle.
  • Test software releases for usability and functionality via assigned tests.
  • Set up equipment and perform hands-on testing of our product ready for deployment to customers.
  • Write bug reports and provide objective feedback.
  • Generate test reports for key stakeholders.
  • Enhance test processes.

Requirements

We are looking for specific skills and experience which are crucial for this role, so we have thought carefully about what’s essential and our desirable skills really are nice-to-haves. We support and encourage development and we hope the right candidate will grow along with our business.

Essential Requirements

  • Willing to learn and able to take instruction and follow a process.
  • Have been exposed to programming and scripting in Python, and bash.
  • Are familiar with software development life-cycle and testing methodologies.
  • Are based within commuting distance of the office.

Desirable Requirements

  • Know your way around UNIX based operating systems.
  • Are comfortable with some ambiguity and fast-paced change of requirements.
  • Have strong product sensibility with an eye for end-to-end user experiences.
  • Have experience with image processing on embedded devices.

Location and Commitments

  • Onsite at our Oxfordshire HQ with some flexibility as and when business requirements allow
  • Full-time but we can accommodate when life means you might need some flexibility.
  • Permanent.
