Software Engineer, Simulation
Intrinsic
Intrinsic is Alphabet’s bet aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core.
Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.
Role
As a Software Engineer specializing in Simulation, you will collaborate with senior engineers to build and maintain high-fidelity simulation environments using Gazebo. You will be responsible for implementing features, creating assets, and running validation tests to ensure our digital twins accurately reflect real-world physics and hardware. You will work closely with the simulation and robotics teams to support the development of the Flowstate platform, ensuring that our tools are reliable and efficient for internal and external developers.
How your work moves the mission forward
- Develop and maintain simulation assets and environments using Gazebo and ROS.
- Implement software features that bridge the gap between simulation and physical robot behavior.
- Create and execute automated tests to validate robotic software performance in simulated environments.
- Collaborate with senior engineers to optimize simulation infrastructure for scalability and speed.
- Document technical workflows and contribute to the internal knowledge base for simulation tools.
- Maintain and contribute to the development of open source software.
Skills you will need to be successful
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Robotics, or equivalent practical experience.
- 2 years of experience in robotics software development or simulation.
- Proficiency programming in C++ and Python.
- Experience with the Gazebo simulator and ROS.
- Familiarity with physics engines (e.g., Dart, Bullet, ODE, MuJoCo).
Skills that will differentiate your candidacy
- Experience with Universal Scene Description (USD) and Simulation Description Format (SDF), and Unified Robotics Description Format (URDF).
- Familiarity with Entity-Component-System (ECS) architecture for game or simulation development.
- Knowledge of 3D modeling or computer graphics.
- Experience with sensor data or synthetic data generation
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP) for running automated tests or simulations.
- Background in developing plugins for open-source robotics projects.
- Experience working with version control systems and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience creating interfaces for front end user facing tools.
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
