Intrinsic is Alphabet’s bet aiming to reimagine the potential of industrial robotics. Our team believes that advances in AI, perception and simulation will redefine what’s possible for industrial robotics in the near future – with software and data at the core.

Our mission is to make industrial robotics intelligent, accessible, and usable for millions more businesses, entrepreneurs, and developers. We are a dynamic team of engineers, roboticists, designers, and technologists who are passionate about unlocking the creative and economic potential of industrial robotics.

As a Lab Technician at Intrinsic, your work will unlock and unblock the full potential of our existing robotics lab in Munich. Ideal candidates have a bias for action, and aren’t afraid of solving unexpected needs of the team. You will likely need to be comfortable navigating ambiguity and willing to learn new skills as the complexity of our work increases over time.

In this role you should expect a wide range of responsibilities including supporting mechanical and electrical installations, using your knowledge of industrial control systems to establish a framework for hardware selection, and ensuring automation workcells are designed with best in class technologies. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing hardware related office tasks including shipping, sourcing, and purchasing efforts. Your work will be a force multiplier to the efforts of the team.

How your work moves the mission forward

  • Work closely with product managers, software developers, and researchers to maintain, improve, and invent our robotic platform from the ground up.
  • Help build and maintain a highly efficient working environment and team culture.
  • Take ownership of designing and implementing rapid innovative R&D robotic automation workcells (from selecting hardware, electrical design to Robot, PLC and HMI programming).
  • Incorporate knowledge of industrial control systems to establish a standard for hardware selection and PLC software.
  • Source and integrate best in-class technology products into automation workcells.
  • Multiply capabilities by continuously and actively weighing decisions to build something in-house or working with a system integrator or contractor to build a solution.
  • Document and communicate your work for internal and external stakeholders.

Skills you will need to be successful

  • 3-year degree or apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience applying robotics, PLC programming, fieldbus communication, or motion controllers to systems that have been deployed in manufacturing facilities and/or labs
  • Knowledge of debugging and wiring robotic industrial control systems
  • Experience selecting components and designing electrical and pneumatic schematics for automation equipment and ability to assemble designed electrical panels
  • Willingness to work in ambiguity, select a direction and drive towards a solution

Skills that will differentiate your candidacy

  • Professional experience designing mechanical and electrical systems
  • Demonstrable experience designing and implementing safety circuitry and safety logic for use in industrial automation
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
