About the role:
The Chief Strategy Officer reports directly into the CEO and is accountable for our corporate strategy & planning, project management and our business intelligence function. You’ll play a leading role with the Elvie executive team and board in refining and validating the strategy.
You’ll also work closely with other functional and market leads on key strategic projects to support growth and value creation and will lead the identification of new growth opportunities.
You will directly lead a team of 10 - a strategy manager, BI lead, BI analyst and a data engineer and a project management team of 6 - but will be expected to pull on resource cross-functionally.
Location: Hybrid working; a mix of working from our London & Bristol office & working remotely
Employment type: 12 month Fixed Term Contract (please note, you must have the right to work in the UK)
What you’ll be doing at Elvie:
The team works on the following focus areas:
Refine & drive Elvie’s strategy, including identifying new growth opportunities:
- Create & establish relevant market analysis to enable us to validate and pivot our strategy where needed. Understand and report back on market shifts and competitive activity. Identify relevant new-new growth areas
- Work with Product and CEO to develop the digital product strategy and roadmap for Elvie, considering Elvie’s inherent strength and development options as well as the wider market/competitive environment
- Work with CEO and CFO to develop the 3-5 year strategy and value creation narrative for Elvie
- Set annual plan for the following year, working with the CEO to ensure objectives, goals and actions to drive them are in place and we’re tracking the relevant metrics. Work with the exec to ensure meeting cycles are in place to drive progress. Work with exec and internal comms to align on a high level company strategy that is communicated to and reported back on to the full organisation
Deliver strategic plans through our programme management function:
- Lead the delivery of key projects through the PM function, also working with your Head of to adapt the way our project management function works to provide clarity on milestones and portfolio management, and evaluate our processes to balance visibility, appropriate sign off and speed
- Bring in more change management to Elvie to help teams embrace the scale up journey and changes we drive
- Working with product, technology and BI teams provide sponsorship of our data transformation programme to accelerate how our product teams access data, drive quality in how it is used and ensure access to our most critical metrics
Increase efficiency & effectiveness through creating access to consistent & high quality data and holding a mirror to our performance through our Business Intelligence team:
- Sponsor our data community - working with them to ensure data is used and managed in the right way and working with our General counsel to ensure compliance & regulatory needs are met and embedded through how we work
- Champion the utilisation of tools, technologies and processes to support a single source of the truth - and manage centralised data sources for our business critical information
- Through your team deliver new data infrastructure, architecture and models to accelerate access to specific data sets and unlock the value of our teams
- Lead a team to create and manage cross-functional reporting
What we are looking for:
Experience:
Essential
- Strong understanding of market research techniques and approaches and of data sets available for market and competitor analysis
- Experience in leading a strategy function in a digital, data led business, ideally a connected product business (e.g. Withings; Oura; Circular Ring; FRENZ etc)
- Ability to lead teams & drive cross-functional collaboration
- Experience of sourcing, collection and analysing data from multiple sources
- Presenting to CXO level audience
Desirable
- Experience leading a sizeable strategy function / team in a strategy consultancy or large corporate
- Experience in an international secondment or working on a number of projects involving overseas businesses
- Managing commercial due diligence processes
- Experience leading changes in the way a business collects, processes and analyses data
Knowledge:
Essential
- Basic financial reporting and analysis
- Global perspective
- Understand how projects are set up and managed
- Good knowledge of a consumer orientated business
- Excellent commercial awareness
Skills:
Essential
- Appraisal of major business development opportunities
- Strategy development experience
- Market and competitor analysis
- Excellent report writing (word and powerpoint) and presentation skills for a plc board audience
- Advanced microsoft excel skills
- Analytical rigour and attention to detail
- Articulate with excellent interpersonal skills – ability to establish credibility with senior management
Desirable
- Experience of deals outside of the UK
- Familiar with value based management approaches
- Experience of corporate planning
