We’re looking for a UK-based Engineering Manager to lead our Web Platform squad. This team’s dual mission is to help scale our web platform to keep up with our rapid user growth with millions of monthly active users, and improve the developer experience by enabling our engineers to ship more with less code and less cognitive overload.
Key challenges you’ll be leading the team through include: how to ensure stability, security and scalability of the web platform, supporting the adoption of Typescript and node in Depop’s backend and building great developer tooling and paved paths to make engineering easier.
This is a great opportunity to combine strong technical leadership and knowledge with real business impact: managing the team that is building the systems that power Depop’s growth, while shaping the future of how fashion resale reaches the world. Success looks like: scalable, reliable web platforms; empowered engineers; and measurable improvements in developer velocity and user experience.
What you’ll do
Deliver high impact solutions
Lead your squad to ship high-quality, solutions that directly improve developer experience and effectiveness. You’ll own delivery and ensure your team’s work translates into measurable improvements.Lead and support your squad
Manage a team of 3–6 senior engineers. Your focus will be on enabling them to perform at their best while fostering happiness, motivation, and resilience. Hands-on contribution is encouraged, but your superpower is leadership.Collaborate across functions
Partner with engineering, product, marketing, and data to understand your users, define priorities, align on goals, set strategic objectives and create a technical roadmap.Shape culture
Champion inclusion, diversity, and team health. Foster a culture of curiosity, respect, and continuous improvement, aligned with Depop’s values and community-first DNA.
What we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from you if you have some of the following:
A track record as an Engineering Manager building high-performing teams, delivering impactful roadmaps, and growing engineers.
Experience designing and evolving scalable, reliable platform architectures, balancing concerns such as developer experience, security, performance, and maintainability.
Background in web engineering with technologies like Nodejs, Next.js, Typescript and React.
Passion for improving developer productivity, building tooling, frameworks, and paved paths that help other teams move faster and safer.
A strong sense of ownership and delivery mindset - you love solving complex problems across domains, and making a big impact.
Great decision-making skills under ambiguity, with a bias towards simplicity and execution.
Excellent stakeholder management: aligning diverse goals to deliver outcomes everyone’s proud of.
Alignment with our Depop DNA - showing up for the community, having each other’s backs, acting with purpose, and keeping sustainability and thrift front of mind.
