The Role:

The Optical Engineering team at CoMind is responsible for developing and implementing optical designs for our cutting edge medical device.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of our existing technical architecture and formulate a clear vision for the future state of our optical systems

  • Define technical roadmaps and produce work packages by partnering with multidisciplinary teams

  • Be an optical engineering subject matter expert within the company and be able to communicate concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences

  • Be one of the most visible engineers in CoMind, by demonstrating technical excellence and embodying our values across all teams

  • Mentor and up-skill other members of the Optical Engineering team

  • Use your extensive industrial knowledge to speed up commercialisation of CoMind’s optical systems

  • Build relationships with contract manufacturers from prototype stage to manufacturing at scale

  • Seek out the challenges from other teams and proactively provide expertise to drive toward solutions

  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement, fostering innovation, and ensuring that architectural decisions align with long-term business goals and objectives.

Skills & Experience:

  • 10+ years experience in designing commercial optical systems

  • Comfortable pushing from mid to high TRL, and measuring your success in terms of business impact

  • You anticipate risks, technical gaps and potential issues

  • You prefer simple solutions and designs over complex ones

  • Optoelectronic experience: lasers (NIR preferred), balanced photodetectors, InGaAs detection, laser driving modules.

  • Hands-on optical systems engineering skills: Assembly, integration, test, characterisation, and/or verification of optical systems

  • Experience producing Work Package Plans to scope out multiple projects working with multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience defining technical roadmaps and development plans for product development

  • Experience in specification and procurement of optical components/materials, optical processes and tolerances associated with series manufacture

  • Identifying product technical requirements through collaborating with multidisciplinary teams

  • Experience with design documentation (preferably for regulatory purposes)

  • Experience determining requirements and writing specifications for optical systems based on customer requirements.
