About the role
Senior Cloud Platform Engineers at Apheris provide the cloud infrastructure that enables our systems to run securely and efficiently. This includes infrastructure that runs directly under our control as well as parts of our product that are set up and run by our customers (the Apheris Compute Gateway).
While we have a particular focus on security, we also strive to make the experience for our customers (and particularly the people that set up our Compute Gateways) as frictionless and enjoyable as possible.
In collaboration with other engineers and data scientists, we are thus in charge of designing, implementing and delivering solutions that enable our customers to realize challenging deep tech projects with the Apheris product.

What you will do
Design and evolve our product together with the engineering and product organization within Apheris:
  • Provide feedback and input for our product, e.g. look for possible ways to support mTLS in load balancing and proxying setups
  • Own certain parts entirely, i.e. how to implement policy enforcement on remote parts of our system
  • Develop ideas around other aspects like sending and collecting telemetry data from customer run parts of our system
  • Be involved in solving interesting system design challenges, like centralizing the control flow in our product while minimizing the potential for leaking information
Support the delivery of the Apheris product:
  • Own the build and delivery infrastructure (e.g. github runners, atlantis, artifactory, fluxcd) and guide other teams on how to use them best
  • You find consensus with teams on guidelines and implement them as guardrails (think checks within github actions, rego policies) within our delivery automation
Be responsible for the Apheris Compute Gateway development and delivery:
  • You are responsible for the infrastructure parts of our Compute Gateways. Ideally you do not shy away from working on the codebases for the agents that power the Compute Gateway either
  • Manage updates to our setup, solve networking challenges like supporting varied kinds of traffic inspection devices and incorporate feedback and learnings back into the Compute Gateway setup
Be a good team player:
  • Craft maintainable code and clear documentation that your colleagues and our customers can work with
  • Review implementations and proposed solutions of other team members, provide constructive feedback and promote best practices throughout our teams
  • Support colleagues from other teams as a subject matter expert
You should apply if
  • 7+ years of relevant working experience, or a Bachelor / Master / PhD in Computer Science or related fields (e.g., Physics, Mathematics, Engineering) and 5+ years of relevant working experience
  • Experience building, maintaining and evolving secure containerized systems on Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure on AWS with IaC tools (focus on Terraform)
  • Good coding skills, preferably in Golang and/or Python, further languages are a plus
  • Excellent communicator: you are fluent in English (verbal and written) and communicate in a constructive and proactive manner
  • You are confident to take ownership of a problem, gather ideas to solve it and convey your approach efficiently
  • You are passionate about continuous learning and have genuine interest in working with cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced startup environment
Bonus points if
  • You have advanced networking skills
  • Additional experience with other cloud providers (e.g., Azure, GCP, OpenStack) and on-premise setups (e.g., locally hosted Kubernetes)
  • Experience in developing enterprise-grade software for (large) B2B products
What we offer you
  • Industry-competitive compensation
  • Early-stage equity
  • Remote-first working – work where you work best, whether from home or a co-working space near you
  • The right hardware to make you efficient – be it a laptop with Linux, Windows, or a MacBook
  • Great suite of benefits including a wellbeing budget, mental health benefits, a work-from-home budget, a co-working stipend, and a learning and development budget
  • Regular team lunches and social events
  • Generous holiday allowance (location-dependent)
  • Quarterly All Hands meet-up at our Berlin HQ
  • A fun and diverse team of mission-driven individuals with a drive to see AI and ML used for good
  • Plenty of room to grow personally and professionally and shape your own role
Here’s a bit more about our culture and ambitions at Apheris!
About Apheris
Finding solutions to the planet’s most urgent problems requires organizations to collaborate. But the data and insights needed to solve these challenges are locked away in businesses, unable to be centralized or directly shared for collaboration with customers and partners. Apheris is pioneering a new way for organizations to securely collaborate on even the most sensitive data across organizational and geographical boundaries. By unlocking value from sensitive data, Apheris is accelerating discovery and innovation, driving operational efficiency, and reducing risk and carbon impact for our customers and their partners.

Apheris is a platform that empowers businesses to run advanced analytics and machine learning models across organizational and geographical borders in a way that’s secure, private, and governed. By powering their data infrastructure with federated ML and analytics, businesses can build and operationalize data applications in ways previously not possible. At Apheris, we’re unified by our mission and the positive impact we can have. We’re excited by the potential we can bring with our federated approach and are looking for someone who can help us define, build and scale this impact. What are you waiting for? Come and join us.
